SKILLS FOR SUCCESS
It was time for a change, needed to better myself. So I signed up for college classes to get my BA in psychology. My first class was Skills for success;I did not realize college had such a course or how much it would help me. My thought at the time was I was going to be spending money for tuition on a class that would not teach me anything boy was I wrong. In this class I relearned some review I needed, learn about computer skills I was lacking, and get some much-needed basic skills to benefit me in furthering my education. The class taught me about many different computer programs to help you with things like a resume, how important a cover letter with your resume is to some employers. It helped me with finding out what type of learning style I have; a, learning style basically is what you require to take in anything. Whether it be cooking something new, playing a game, or even trying to be a better person. My learning styles are a combination of all three different known styles; watching, hearing, and doing. Skills like time management which helps you figure out if you are using all your time the best you can. Finding ways to fill in any voids you might have in your time that could be causing you not to be as productive as you may want to be in life. Just about all of us have some areas in our lives like that even if we are good at managing our time wisely. Showed you tools to help you keep up with were your time was going so if you aren’t good with using your time to your advantage you could learn to be. One section of the class was stress health and money, all these things are in everyone’s lives also. Who new college course’s would address these kinds of subjects, I sure didn’t. In this section it discussed ways to get healthy if not all ready and ways to make healthier choices. Ways to help get your stress levels get reduced, when we are stressed out sometimes even the little things can seem impossible. I found that chapter especially useful, trying something new like going back to school can be nerve-racking, anything new has potential to add stress. Money is a big issue for most of us, even if you have a great deal of money you are going to want to stretch your dollar as far as you can so you can keep that luxury. Another good section in the class I found useful was the section on good decision-making. We learned skills about taking notes and how being an efficient note taker can be beneficial in many areas of your life. Also reading and writing skills to help you heighten your potential for being a better reader and writer. Things about speaking skills, this area taught me that almost everyone gets nervous to talk to a group and that with practice you can improve this skill to a point were it can be second nature, like talking to a friend. I went into this class willing and able to learn, I was not sure how much it would really help but I am glad I kept an open mind and absorbed all the knowledge my professor had to teach us as students. I would recommend this class to anyone, even if the weren’t doing school this class touches on many subjects that the general public could find and make useful in their search to improve on their lives. Skills For Success ASP 100 Helped me to know that I know where I have been, I know where I am at, I have no clue what all the future will hold for me but I am so excited to see where I end up at. I still have a lot of learning to go but I think this was a good class to start with.
